The goal by Harry Falconer which put Burnley into the lead against Cardiff in the Youth Cup semi-final at Turf Moor.
From a report by Keith McNee:
It was a disappointed and heavily dejected group of players that sat together in the Turf Moor home dressing room after this FA Youth Cup semi-final first leg. They smiled only briefly when chairman Mr Bob Lord offered words of encouragement as he presented red youth international caps of Wales to goalkeeper Jeff Parton and outside left Leighton James.
Looking for a two-goal lead, Burnley totally failed to do their undoubted ability justice in this match and were frankly very fortunate to get away with a draw after their worst display in the competition. Cardiff always looked the more dangerous side. Paul Bradshaw stood out on the Burnley right wing, and both Harry Falconer and Welch missed chances from the Sheffield boy's thrustful promptings. Leighton James had two memorable moments, one in each half. Firstly when in the space of 10 yards he waltzed past three defenders but unfortunately couldn't round off this glorious move and succeeded only in rapping the outside of the post. Burnley took the lead against the run of play after 27 minutes. Brennan began the move, and Ingham cleverly slipped a pass through into the box for Falconer to easily beat goalkeeper Williams with a shot into the corner.
Cardiff's superiority increased in the second-half and in the 67th minute Gibbs grabbed an equaliser to make Cardiff the favourite to reach the final. But the Turf Moor squad mood when they left home yesterday morning, 18th March 1971, for the second leg suggested they were ready to fight all the way and prove that they can play much better than they showed in the first leg.
