The inter-departmental knockout final of Joseph Lucas Ltd, Burnley, was one of the most exciting contests for the Jim Weyman Trophy since the competition started and was won by 809 Assembly who defeated 806 Welding, both being from Hargher Clough. The knockout attracted 38 teams of 10 from the Lucas Burnley factories, and two points are awarded for each individual win in snooker, darts and dominoes. Outstanding in Thursday's final at Lucas Sports Club was Ken Billington (809) who was successful in all his three contests, his darts win clinching the trophy.

Mr Brian Whitaker, sports organiser, said that they had an excellent competition and he thanked all teams for entering. The trophy was presented to Mr Ted Spence, captain of the winning team by Mr G. Godden, chairman of Lucas Sports Club and manager of all Lucas Electric factories in Burnley. The 806 team was captained by Mr Alan Dickinson.
