The Mayor and children start the planting outside the dressing rooms to the football field. With them are the headmasters o St Stephen’s and Todmorden Road schools, Mr J Wilson and Mr F Baldwin. The banks of the River Calder in Towneley Park were brightened up on Tuesday with a selection of new trees, including lime, sycamore, oak, maple elm and mountain ash. Children from St Stephen’s and Todmorden Road schools helped the Mayor, Ald, Dick Newlove, to start the planting of 100 trees in the Towneley Holmes area, and workmen from Burnley Parks department finished off the job.
This is part of the first phase of the Mayor’s project “A Tree for Burnley” supported by the Burnley Express.
