On behalf of Burnley Girls' High School, Gillian Beswick (under 13's captain) and Carole Hartley (under 16's captain) receive the netball tournament shield from Martin Dobson. Looking on is High School teacher Mrs Eileen Thorpe.

Two old rivals on the netball court met on Saturday, when St Hilda's and Burnley Girls' High School fought for supremacy in the Burnley Inter Schools Netball Tournament held at Gawthorpe School. But both teams came away with a trophy at the finish. Despite the fact that, because they have no courts of their own, St Hilda's have had to play all their matches away this year, they won the Inter Schools Netball League, beating the High School by three points. Burnley Girls' High School won the tournament trophy with 18 points, but St Hilda's ran a very close second with 17.

After the event Clarets' star Martin Dobson presented the Keighley Cup to St Hilda's and the tournament trophy to Burnley Girls' High School.
