Wallstreams Farm at Worsthorne probably gets its name because, centuries ago, the nearby stream was diverted so that it flowed in a sort of moat around the house. The farm and adjoining cottage date back to around 1400, but there has been much rebuilding over the centuries and most of what can be seen nowadays dates from the 17th century. Over the door is a stone tablet in which can just be discerned the words "John Towne and Alis his wife." The date has vanished altogether. Another interesting feature are stone heads from pre-Roman times built into a window, probably to ward off evil.
The house is being lovingly restored by father and son partnership Ken and Rod Taylor, who will each have homes here when their work is complete. The pair have been in business for some time restoring old houses for other people. Now they are putting their skills to their own use. They'll also have company, for there is said to be a friendly ghost.
