Eighty housebound old folk from Burnley were taken out for a meal and a show on Sunday afternoon by the St Vincent de Paul Society. The old folk who are members of various denominations within the St John's RC Church, Ivy Street, area were taken on the trip in place of their usual party. Tea was served by Mrs R. Cooney and a team of helpers, and was held in the Immanuel Chapel social room.

After the meal they were taken by coach to Charnock Richard, where they joined parties of old folk from Westhoughton and Euxton to see a minstrel show which included a Scottish half-hour. Mr Bill Duxbury, a member of the society, said "It was a great success and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Some of these old people don't get out for six or seven weeks."
