Arthur Bellamy leaves three Crystal Palace players trailing as he gets into their penalty area. It was from this breakthrough that Ralph Coates scored the first goal for the Clarets.

From a Report by Keith McNee:
Saturday, 27th February 1971, was quite a day for Burnley with this first away win of the season, a first "double" and the first occasion on which three of the club's teams won on the same afternoon. On a sunny spring-like afternoon at Selhurst Park in South London we saw a "new Burnley" give a much improved display and the two points collected were reward from a sparkling team effort. From goalkeeper Tony Walters, who produced two marvellous saves in the second half, to outside left Steve Kindon who ran riot on the wing in a performance reminiscent of his Youth Cup days. The big difference was a confidence in their play which stemmed from their sixth minute goal by Coates, leading them to take midfield control through Coates and Bellamy. Dobson (twice) and Waldron could have had more goals before Burnley increased their lead after 26 minutes. Coates and Bellamy methodically began the move in midfield and Kindon, in an ocean of space, ran at the Palace penalty area at top speed, finally slipping a pass to Dobson who clipped the ball wide of Jackson with his right foot. This was his fourth goal of the season and they have all been scored in the last seven games.

In the second half Palace briefly began to look the more dangerous but Waldron and Nulty came into their own with no-nonsense clearances.
