Star comedian of the Lancashire clubs Benny Dixon and a quartet of Burnley footballers were the big attraction at Read Cricket Club on Wednesday, 28th April 1971, when nearly 200 people attended a fund-raising concert. In a one-man show, Benny Dixon gave a virtuoso performance of his vintage Lancashire humour to a packed audience. During the interval, Burnley football stars, Martin Dobson, Paul Fletcher, Doug Collins, Frank Casper, and Blackpool's goalkeeper Neil Ramsbottom presented prizes to the value of £50.
The event was organised by members of Read Cricket Club, Ramon Bell, John Harwood and Ernie Summer and nearly £200 was raised.
