The weekend was a gala occasion for many Burnley churches, and though processions of witness, anniversaries, walks and field days were disrupted or cancelled on Saturday because of rain, Sunday 11 June 1972, proved a better day, and the town echoed to the sound of brass bands. Some churches had their own parades, others linked their festivities. Queens retired and new ones were crowned, special services were held and children played major roles in all events. Baptists, Methodists, C of E, the Salvation Army and other religious bodies gathered their members to walk in processions of faith through the streets of the town, all culminating in church services, some of them joint efforts of worship.
Members of St Catherine's Church walked round the parish on Sunday afternoon and linked up with Salvation Army members at St. Catherine's Church for a joint service.
