League Trophy For Whittlefield

The championship trophy is handed to the Whittlefield captain, T. Aspinall by Alderman Bailey. Also in the group are J. Smith (secretary), Peter Green, and in front P. Parry (Abinger Street) and B. Beech (Barrowford).

Whittlefield Club won the Conservative Snooker League championship during 1970-71 season for the first time, and received the trophy from the league president, Alderman Frank Bailey, on Friday 14th May 1971. The president recalled that the title had been won in a play-off and on the black ball. He commented on the large attendance and said that the league had a most efficient secretary in Mr Jack Smith who had seen his first season in office through to a successful conclusion.

League runners-up were Fulledge; Abinger Street A won the knock-out for the third time in four years. Barrowford A were the defeated finalists. Peter Green won the individual competition, beating Ken Cookson in the final; R. Bullock and T. Cook were the semi-finalists. The highest break prize was won by Ken Cookson (50)
