Christian Aid Week got off to a flying start this weekend in Burnley with two highly successful fund raising events. More that £90 was raised on Saturday 15th May 1971 when a number of folk singers performed throughout the day in Burnley's market square. Those who took part were the Rev. Peter Went, Rosehill School choir and folk groups Prana and The Flying Shuttle. The event was organised by Mr Went of the Padiham Methodist Circuit.

On Sunday about 50 members of local churches sat down to just a meal of soup and bread, to help the starving. The "hunger lunch" was served at St Augustine's RC Church and was organised by the West Burnley Council of churches. A film about the Maasai tribe in Kenya, entitled "Reaching Out" was also shown and £18 was raised. Tonight a folk concert is being held at Central Methodist Church and a treasure hunt will be held on Saturday to raise money for Christian Aid
