Councillor Cyril Law gives a preliminary talk to the young cyclists in their first class at Read.
The first class this year to instruct local youngsters for the cycling proficiency test was held in Read last Friday, 14th May 1971. Three classes are to be held each week in the playground of Read C of E School and there will be about 15 children in each class. Councillor Cyril Law, one of five instructors, has been preparing children for the ROSPA certificate for nearly 13 years. He said: "There is quite a backlog of youngsters from Read, Simonstone and district. Although the certificate can only be given to children over nine years of age, we still encourage younger ones to come along to the classes. This is not a rally it is instruction in road craft and includes instruction in the maintenance of cycles as well as road safety."
