Highlight of Padiham and District Darts League finals at the Lowerhouse Mills Club on Thursday, 20th May 1971 was the match between Britannia and Union. This was for the knockout trophy which each year raises money for the Burnley and District Society for the Blind and resulted in a win for Britannia. They gained a 1-0 lead when K. Marshall beat R. Shaw, but B. Green made it 1-1 by defeating K. Large. Then Peter Kearns, the Britannia captain, defeated J. Bickle, and two further victories, one by K. Kelly over J. Waddingham, and Mick Muldoon, with a great recovery to beat W. Dawson, ensured a Britannia success. Teams were seven a side, one game of 501 each. The singles title was won by W. Schofield, who defeated his colleague from the Bridge, W. Bradshaw, and they both won the pairs final against W. Sleddon and J. Cadman (Bridge).
Chairman of Padiham UDC, Councillor Mrs Sheila Maw presented the season's awards, the Bridge receiving the A Division trophy, with Britannia runners-up, and Padiham British Legion the B Division, with Read Constitutional Club in second place. The chairman, Mr E. Briggs, handed a cheque to Mr A. Hewitt (representative of the Society for the Blind) for money raised by the knockout tournament.
