For 21 years Mr Clifford Maden has given distinguished service to the Burnley and District Table tennis League in various official capacities. On Friday, 21st May 1971, at Yorke House his work was recognised at the annual presentation of awards. The league president, Mr Tom Alston, spoke of how much time and effort Mr Maden had given in the cause of local table tennis and presented him with a wrist watch.

The season's awards were won as follows: A Division, Burnley CC A; B Division, Elgin; C Division, Lucas; Gaukroger Shield, Burnley CC A; Lucas Shield, Ken Cocker and G. Isherwood Brunshaw YC; Express Cup, Ken Cocker; Willie Holt Cup, C. Riley. The Whiteley Cup was won by Jack Keogh for the eighth time in 12 years.
