Mr. & Mrs. Wade at the yellow lines outside their shop where drivers no longer stop.
A long article in the Padiham area page, reporting on protests from shopkeepers in Padiham a week after double yellow lines went down outside their shops, resulting in a drop in passing trade a loss of takings. The double yellow lines are aimed at cutting accidents on this busy stretch of road, but traders say people now park on the other side of the road and dash across, making it worse.
Mr. Peter Wade and his wife who run a newsagents, are one of the worst affected. The traders have campaigned against the plan ever since it was announced. Mr. & Mrs. Wade were going to extend their shop but will put that on hold. Oddie’s bakery say they have also lost trade. The Borough Surveyor said it would take a few months to evaluate but the lines had been put down to prevent accidents with people stepping out from behind parked cars, and they had also built a car park at considerable expense.
