Junior members of the brigade take part in a war dance.
From an article by Norman Powell:
Saturday night's floodlit tattoo, the local Boys' Brigade most ambitious event ever, attracted a large crowd to Towneley Park, despite uncertain weather and a cool breeze. The event was organised by the Burnley and District Battalion of the brigade and was in aid of the Round Table Hospital 5000 Fund. The chief guest was the High Sheriff of Lancashire, Mr Simon Towneley, and the event was also attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Alderman and Mrs D. Parkinson and civic dignitaries from surrounding areas.
The tattoo took place in front of Towneley Hall, specially floodlit for the occasion and with the Boys' Brigade flag proudly fluttering from the flag staff, and trumpeters sounding a fanfare from the battlements. All sections of the movement were represented with bands and physical training displays. Unfortunately what could have been one of the most colourful items of the evening was enacted in semi-darkness when the Junior Section built up the international "anchor" of the Boys' Brigade. The high spot of the evening, the appearance of the St Helens Boys' Brigade Pipe Band, was also spoiled in the dim light, the floodlighting being insufficient to give a full effect. The opening prayers were said by the Bishop of Burnley, and the Gospel Group. The Samaritans entertained the audience before the display commenced. Over 400 boys and officers took part in the display, a most imaginative parade, which could have been spectacular if the lighting had been successful.
