The Mayor (centre front) holds the junior section trophy which young cyclists at the school have won six times in succession. Almost hidden at the back of this successful group of pupils, is Alderman Gallagher.
Heasandford Junior School won the junior section trophy in the town's safe cycling rally - for the sixth time in succession. This is the tenth time the trophy has been won by the school since the annual competition began. Pupils at the school took at least half the places in the rally and won both the junior section trophy and the individual winner's trophy. Over-all winner in the section was Jacqueline Lancaster. Her win was all the more commendable because she only took her cycling proficiency certificate earlier this year.
The Mayor of Burnley, Alderman D. Parkinson, and the chairman of Burnley's Accident Prevention Council, Alderman T. E. Gallaher, were among those who went to the school on Tuesday morning, 29th June 1971, to present the awards and congratulate the pupils taking part. Heasandford award winners: Julie E. Holt, Jacqueline Lancaster, Beverley Ann Simcox, Valerie Tomlinson, Ghislane Baldocke, Julie Brown, John Richard Danby, Stephen Fielden, Ian Michael Gilbert, Ronald McDonald and Shaun Clayton, all of Burnley.
