Mr nd Mrs Wally Heap, and another shopper, seem doubtful that this is the bargain they have been searching for. They are seen at the stall of Mr Vernon Bailey, a Bolton trader who has been coming to Burnley pot fair for 32 years - and his father and grandfather before that. He said "this site is just the job and trade is going very well. We have no grumbles at all."

Stallholders at Burnley's annual and traditional pot fair have had a splendid time on their new site next to the open market. This was their verdict on Saturday, 3rd July 1971, when business was going along at a cracking pace. Whether it was the new high-level site or the splendid holiday weather that drew the customers in their thousands is open to doubt.

And so Burnley pot fair is alive and well and likely to continue that way, providing a link with an almost bygone age for many years to come. Fears expressed by the stallholders last year that Burnley pot fair had reached the end of the road have gladly not materialised. In fact, although there were only a dozen stalls there this year, there would have been more had there been more accommodation. Traders obviously are well satisfied by the new set-up and want to return again. The shoppers and bargain seekers obviously want them back and so continue the tradition.
