The Queen was met by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mr Simon Towneley and Mrs Mary Towneley as she stepped on to the platform, wearing a claret wool double-breasted coat with a half-belt at the back. Black gloves, black patent low-heeled shoes, and a trilby-style dark burgundy hat, with a red and blue band, completed the outfit, which was obviously designed to keep out the cold, but not be too bulky for inside.
