The new Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship, donated by the Burnley, Padiham Stewards' Association to the Sunday School and Amateur Football League, was awarded for the first time at the annual presentation night of the league at the Mullard Sports Club on Wednesday. Winners were Barden Staff, who gained, an average of 4.48 marks out of a possible five; Angle Street took the Blackston Cup, with 4.44, and BBOB were in third place with 4.39. There were 18 teams with more than three points.
The new A Division championship award, the Britannia Memorial cup, donated by Bass Charrington, was won by Stoneyholme YC and handed over by Mr Colin Ratcliffe on behalf of the firm. Stoneyholme also won the Charity Cup and the Holt Cup, and Mr J. Banks, league chairman, said they hoped that Stoneyholme's successes would be an incentive to other teams next season. Padiham St John's were champions of B Division and Brunshaw YC won the Charity Shield.
The awards were presented by Mr Peter Blakey, physiotherapist for Manchester City FC, and the guests and officials, together with two representatives of each club attended a dinner preceding the presentation at the Dugdale Hotel. Members of Stoneyholme YC later attended a party given by Mr and Mrs Brian Hunting at the Adelphi Hotel to celebrate their triple win. Stoneyholme B team representatives and former club members also attended.
