The Auxiliary Bishop of Salford, the Rt. Rev. Bishop Burke, carried the Sacrament and was the main celebrant at the concelebrated High Mass at St Theodore's Corpus Christi procession on Thursday night, 10th June 1971. Hundreds of people - St Theodore's RC School pupils and adult members of local RC churches - took part in this, the third annual procession.

Because of the weakened rail bridge in Colne Road the procession had to take another, slightly longer route before arriving back at St Theodore's for the Mass on the school playing field. Other celebrants at the Mass were Canon B. McClernon and Father K. Kenny (both of Manchester), Father J. Sullivan (St Mary's, Burnley), Father B. Scale (St John's, Burnley), Father J. Sheeky (St John's, Rochdale) and Father J. Allen (secretary to the Bishop of Salford). Father John Neville, of St Mary's RC Church, Burnley, said: "It went very well, despite the rather dull weather, and the police co-operated very well with regard to traffic."
