Loudest applause in a night of congratulations at the Burnley and District Darts League presentations was reserved for Sam Taylor, just out of hospital. Captain of the Owl in the Wood, Sam reached the quarter-finals of both the singles and doubles championships but had to withdraw through illness. He received a runners-up trophy as his Owl team were second in Blue Division.
More than £350 worth of prizes were presented by Mr M. Horton, area director of Bass Charrington, who said that the league's excellent record was due to the long service of officials such as Raymond Leek, the chairman and Mr Albert Cawley, the secretary. He recalled that the league, with its five divisions, had a registered membership of more than 1,000. The president, Mr W. Pomeroy, was unable to be present owing to holidays.
