Seven records were smashed at the Burnley Junior Schools Swimming Gala on Tuesday, 15th June 1971, at North Street Baths, when 17 schools competed in exciting events.

Records were broken in the four free-style events, with D. Robinson of Ightenhill Junior School, clipping 3.3 seconds off the standing record in the girls' 25 yards free-style to finish in 16 seconds. Other records were set in the boys' and girls' 25 yards open breast-stroke events and the girls' 4 x 25 yards squadron race.
