A vicar has been appointed at St Peter's Parish Church, Burnley, for the first time in its 850-year history. However the new title given to the Rev. Keith Knight, is an honorary one. He took up his appointment on Sunday, 20th June 1971. Mr Knight, who is 35, was born in Bexleyheath, Kent, and gained a degree in physics at the University of Southampton. After working for a short time in industry he studied theology at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, and became a curate at Lower Darwen in 1952. He was later curate at Leyland from 1964 to 1968, when be became Vicar of All Saints' Church, Blackburn. Mr Knight is married with two sons, Timothy (6) and Ian (3). As well as being the new vicar at St Peter's, Mr Knight is also youth chaplain for the Blackburn Diocese. He shares a career in the church with a reputation of being something of a handyman. His hobbies are electronics and gardening and he has even built his own record player.
