Pendle Lions 'Galarama'

The battle noises which filled the air in Nelson’s Victoria Park on Sunday afternoon with ear-splitting clamour were created by the Rochdale American Civil War Society, the main attraction at the Pendle Lions “Galarama '81".
Over 2,000 people were thrilled by the exciting reconstruction of scenes from the American Civil War which ended in fitting style with the Unionists scoring a resounding victory.
As well as the battle scenes there were also plenty of other attractions to keep the crowds occupied.
With the assistance of Pendle Valley Roadsters the Lions staged a dazzling custom car rally with 60 cars entering the competition.
All of the cars were superbly customised and the eye-catching exhibition certainly kept many people occupied for a good deal of the time.
The Army - the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment that is - was also there with an assault course which proved to be a great favourite with the youngsters, and there was also a rifle range.
Musical entertainment was provided by the Lockwood Band.
