From an article by Norman Powell:
The provision of tough physical activity used to be one of the main principles involved with work with young boys, and it was said with some truth that boys needed to work off the tremendous energy they possess. Apparently this idea still permeates the thinking at Burnley Boys' Club, for the junior club night on Tuesday evenings is an example of this type of activity. Club leader, Jack Bottomley, takes charge of the junior club himself, and the programme involves physical training and work in the gym, with the vaulting horse, mat work and bench work. Any surplus energy still remaining is catered for with games like touch rugby and five-a-side football. The boys attending the junior club are aged between eight and twelve and while Jack is fully occupied with the 30 boys already attending, he is prepared to take a few more, provided he can get adult help.

The junior club programme is varied for, in addition to activities within the club, a series of visits have been arranged. In addition to the teams already connected with the club Jack is also organising a football team for the under 12's and is seeking suitable fixtures.
