Seen with the trophy are Mr E. Ogden (branch treasurer) and Mr. Fairweather.
The Harvey Longworth Trophy, awarded to the Royal British Legion branch in East Lancashire showing the most efficiency and progress, has been won for the fifth successive year by the Padiham branch. The secretary of the branch, Mr George Fairweather, said: "The judges look at the branches' membership, the response to the poppy appeal and the amount of welfare work which has been done. I must admit that we have the advantage of having a very fine club, but all the 29 East Lancashire branches have an equal chance to do welfare work."
The branch is planning to erect flats in the Quarry Street area of Padiham under the British Legion Housing Association scheme and on November 16th the annual old people's dine will be held at the club.
