The pensioners, with some of their old workmates, gather together before the lunch.

Retired employees of Burnley Paper works enjoyed a New Year lunch, courtesy of the firm, in the works canteen on Wednesday, 9th January 1974. It was the first event of its kind and seemed successful. Mr S. Cornall, the works personnel manager, said: "It was impossible to have a lunch before, but now we have the new canteen we are hoping to make this an annual event."

After the lunch the 15 pensioners who attended were allowed the run of the factory, so they could refresh their memories of the time they worked there, and renew old acquaintances.
