Mr Peter Fewster gets a television golf lesson from Leeds' golf "pro" Mr Hedley Muscroft. Most novel feature of the evening was the closed-circuit television golf school run by Mr Pat Wood (a lecturer) and two students of the Nelson and Colne College of Further Education, Geoff Hanson and Michael Abbott. Mr Fewster, a retired textile director, was one of the early students and was hoping it would improve his game.
From an article by Allan Halstead:
"Swinging" - in both the golf and the entertainment sense summarises, in one word, Tuesday's golf extravaganza at the Cat's Whiskers on the 12th February 1974. The joint Family Circle-Piccadilly Golf Evening attracted around 500 guests, not only from Burnley, Clitheroe and the neighbouring area, but also sporting stars from a wide area of the North.
One of the luckiest visitors was Mr Raymond Preston, of Hellifield, a member of Settle Golf Club who won a Castle golf holiday presented by Mr Frank Eckersley, sales promotion executive on behalf of Castle Holidays Group (Management) Ltd. of Colne. Round Table members under chairman Mr Neil Beecham did a wonderful job running a variety of golf competitions. One, a 24-man knockout hole-in-one event, was won by Mr Alan Coates, a Pearl insurance agent of Accrington, for sinking nine putts out of 10.
The Piccadilly tobacco firm, which was represented by Mr John Carter (northern manager) also screened films of their international sponsored golf events. It all made, in the words of Burnley Golf Club's vice captain, Mr Peter Searle, "a very successful evening."
