A feature of Saturday's match was the safe handling of both goalkeepers. In this picture Ray Clemence makes a clean catch to thwart Burnley again.
From a match report by Peter Higgs:
Fate, which has been so unkind to Burnley in recent weeks, gave them another stab in the back at Anfield on Saturday, 2nd March 1974. A goal, 61 seconds from the end robbed them of a well-deserved point, which they appeared to have safely wrapped up. Burnley matched Liverpool in every department and might so easily have snatched victory themselves. Five minutes from time Frank Casper sent in a 20 yard shot that beat Clemence comprehensively. As thousands of heads turned waiting for the net to bulge, the ball dipped and swerved barely a yard wide of the far post.
Liverpool's goal was a personal tragedy for Colin Waldron who had played so magnificently in defence up to that point. It came when Liverpool pumped a long ball down their left wing towards the Kop end. Waldron went across and cut out the danger near his own right-hand corner flag. He attempted to clear down the right touchline but Cormack intercepted the clearance and Keegan was able to head down the cross to Toshack, who drove the ball in fiercely from about six yards. There was encouragement in the performance of Frank Casper, who gets nearer and nearer his best form with each game. In addition to coming close near the end he tested Clemence in the first half with a fierce 25-yarder that the goalkeeper was happy to turn over.
