Waiting for the big moment - the queue of people waiting for the doors to open.
Brothers Paul and Philip Read of Goldfield Avenue, Worsthorne, stepped into a new era of Burnley's sporting history when they were first across the threshold of the new Thompson Recreation Centre, which opened to the public on Saturday. The lads, aged eight and 11 started queueing at 6 am but by the time the doors opened three hours later, more than 100 people had joined them. They got out of bed at 5.30 am to make sure of being first - and cold but still clutching their swimming kits they were welcomed inside by senior organiser Mr. Tony Carroll.
When they got their first look at the magnificent swimming pool it was clearly up to expectations, "It's worth every minute we waited" said Phillip. First into the pool were Paul Turner, aged 12 of Herbert Street, Burnley and his friend David Bennett aged 9 of Melville Street, Burnley. But soon they were joined by scores of others and the pool rapidly filled.
