Alan Binns who will play the part of Don Jose.
From an article by Norman Powell:
One of the most attractive of the events being held to mark local government re-organisation will surely be the production of the opera "Carmen" by staff and pupils of Burnley schools. As far as I can trace, the last amateur production of "Carmen" was by Burnley Operatic Society at the Palace Theatre in November 1979, and Carmen was played by Madeline Rossall who was described as a great Carmen at the time.
The Burnley schools' production of "Carmen" takes place from April 3rd to 6th at the Municipal College Theatre. The producer is Gordon Simms, and the musical director Geoffrey Balson. The cast appears to be a talented one and includes Alan Binns (Barden) cast as Don Jose. Though I cannot recall seeing him in any local amateur production he is, of course, well known as a singer. Frasquita will be played by Kathleen Foster of St Hilda's, and I understand that Kathleen did a great deal of concert work while she was at Paddock House School, and later the Royal College of Music. Kathleen appeared in the chorus with Burnley Light Opera Society a number of years ago, but this will be her first appearance on the amateur stage for some time.
