More than 2,000 Burnley Roman Catholics professed their belief in the presence of Christ in the Eucharist in the annual Corpus Christi procession on Sunday. A concelebrated Mass was said in the grounds of St Theodore's RC High School by Canon Francis Deeney, of St Mary's, Fr John Groarke, of St Augustine's, and Fr Jos Sheekey, of St Teresa's.
Burnley's leading citizens, the Mayor, Coun. Mrs Mary Durkin, and Mayoress, Coun. Mrs Enid Tate, were among the congregation. The procession, including Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies and first Holy Communicants, made its way down Ormerod Road and Church Street, ending up at St Mary's, Yorkshire Street, for Benediction.
