Kathryn Coughlan should carry a health warning for the benefit of would be muggers because the 15 year old Walshaw High School pupil has developed high skills in the lethal martial arts discipline of Thai Boxing. Officially known as Muay Thai, it is a full contact sport in which blows are struck with hands, feet, knees and elbows and Kathryn has just been awarded a brown grade. She trains at the Burnley Thai Boxing Club at Duke Bar run by Ralf Kussler, who is originally from Recklingshausen in Germany, and her ambition is to fight in tournaments and eventually become an instructor. She only took up the sport last August having previously been a sprinter in Burnley Athletic Club.
