A dance and social evening at Belvedere and Calder Vale Sports Club on Saturday, 9th March 1974, was interrupted while members of Burnley Boys' Club paid tribute to long serving club man Derek Walker. Derek, who is soon to move to Bristol, played for the club's football teams for 15 years. As the event was organised by the football section officials took the opportunity of presenting Derek with an inscribed tankard in appreciation of his services to the club. He played in midfield for the second eleven on Saturdays, and is captain of the Sunday side.

The presentation was made by Mr Frank Pollard, football section president. More than 100 people attended the dance. Music was provided by the Owen Pate Disco and there was a chicken supper.
