Mr G. Simms
From a Stage Gossip article by Norman Powell:
It may come as something of a surprise to those who know the excellent work done by local schools in amateur drama to learn that Burnley Town council's Education Committee has appointed a drama organiser. Mr. G. Simms, who has now taken up the appointment, will work mainly in an advisory capacity, though I understand that some part-time teaching and lecturing on drama will be involved. Mr Simms told me this week that he does not intend to cut across the existing pattern, and at present is making himself familiar with local schools and interests.
Mr Simms trained at York in English and drama, and took up a position at Bedford. His experience includes teaching and lecturing in these subjects. He has been very much concerned with religious drama, and toured the Bedford area acting with a professional company. While Mr Simms will mainly be concerned with schools, it is possible that his experience and his interests may have some effect on the Youth Service. He also told me that he hopes to form a schools Theatre group.
