Competitors in the first year long jump look on in dismay as Craig Turkington, of Ivy Bank, records the winning leap.

Two new records were set at this year's inter-schools sports meeting at Barden track on Tuesday, 2nd July 1974. Towneley fourth-former Karen Palmer broke the 200 metres record by more than a second, with a time of 26.6. The High school relay team set the other record in the 4 x 100 metres relay with a time of 53.6 seconds. But there were many more excellent performances by competitors from seven Burnley schools.
