Len and Eleanor's Grand Tour 1951, Bournemouth, a set of 6 album pages with 4 or 5 snaps per page and comments in white pen.
Page 4: another day another ferry, this time a rough crossing to the Isle of Wight, people were sick, but Eleanor looks in fine form, enjoying ice cream and strawberries (cost one shilling) at Brightstone, and the party also stopped for lunch at the Castle Hotel in Ryde.
The Castle burnt down in 2012 but was restored and is still a hotel. There are no signs in contemporary photos of the weird collection of hunting trophy heads etc. in the entrance hall, perhaps they perished all over again.
Many ferries had been used by the military during the war and may have been involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk.
