Guests at the Burnley and District Caledonian Society Burns Night celebration. The great chieftain of the puddin race appeared at Blacko last Friday supported by his old partners neeps and tatties, the highlight of the Burns Celebration by Burnley and District Caledonian Society. 10 years ago the society allowed in Sassenachs in an attempt to revive its declining fortunes, with success as it is thriving, 56 years after its formation. President Dr. Cullen addressed the haggis, Mayor of Burnley Councillor Frank Bailey proposed a toast to the Society. Pipe Major John Tinnion piped in the haggis, which was consumed by all present including the Mayor who overcame his initial apprehension.Past President Mrs. G. Greig proposed a toast to the guests, to which Mr. A.M. Buchanan replied.
