Burnley's "very splendid" fire station is probably one of the finest in the country," said HM Inspector of Fire Brigades, Mr. F. Mees, at the parade held at the end of a two day inspection at the fire station on Thursday. Mr. Mees commented that few forces had the range of equipment, such as the "Snorkel" that Burnley had, and local firemen should take advantage of the opportunity of working in a modern force. "Nowadays there are wonderful opportunities for those keen and interested which have never occurred before. I hope you at Burnley will take advantage of these and make sure those who have got ability go right to the top," he added.
The Mayor (Ald. J. H. Sutcliffe) said Burnley could be proud of the premises as the town was of the force that watched over them. "This inspection gives me an opportunity to say to the officers and men and women of the brigade, thank you for the way you serve this town." After the inspection of personnel, Mr. Mees presented medals for long service to members who had served for 20 years. These were Station Officers H.S. Hall, J. C. Bushby and M. Lynch, Firewoman Edith Kewin and Fireman A. Johnson.
