A good evening's entertainment is almost guaranteed at a junior school concert, for besides the ability and enthusiasm of the youngsters, mums and dads, grandmas and other relatives in the audience match the children in their enjoyment. But the musical evening presented by Lane Head C of E Junior School last week did not depend on an indulgent audience for its success, though it certainly had an encouraging and appreciative one.
The most impressive item was Capt. Noah and his floating zoo, presented by the school choir, all under 11 years of age, and so obviously enjoying their singing. This was, in effect, a mini-concert on its own, and it was obvious that the excellent performance could only have resulted from intensive rehearsals and disciplined training. The words, so important in a work of this nature, came over clear and distinct, and added to the enjoyment. Other items in the programme included recorder groups, country dancing, and junior choir with percussion, and it was apparent that almost every child in the school had a share in the programme.
The headmaster, Mr K. Happer, introduced the evening of music, and Mr C. Scholes, was the conductor, with Mrs V. Bland the accompanist.
