Ray Hankin with his fiancee Penny Greenwood.
It's been a memorable weekend for two of Burnley's young soccer stars. On Friday 19-year-old Ray Hankin announced his engagement to 21-year-old student Penny Greenwood. And the following day Billy Rodaway, 20, married Miss Mary Auger at St Mary's RC Church, Burnley - with Hankin as the best man.
Under 23 international Hankin, who has been a regular member of the Burnley first team for the past two seasons, met his fiancee at a dance in Burnley. Penny, of The Knoll, Barnoldswick, is a keen Clarets fan. She attends all the Burnley home games with her father, Mr William Greenwood, as members of the exclusive 70 club.
Liverpool-born Rodaway, who, joined Burnley straight from school, five years ago, has married a local girl. His bride lives with her parents in Belvedere Road, Burnley. Now the couple are to set up home in Rossendale Road, on return from their honeymoon in Majorca. Hankin and Rodaway, close friends who "room" together on the Clarets away trips, are two of the latest prospects to be groomed for stardom by Turf Moor coaching staff, which has produced so many outstanding young players over the years.
