Holy Trinity is one of the most significant landmarks on the western approach to town- and should be saved at all costs. This was the view of planning officials who asked church officials to make strenuous efforts to find another use for it. Holy Trinity Parochial Church Council had asked for it to be declared redundant, with parishioners being transferred to St Matthews. One possibility was for it to be adopted by the CofE redundant Churches Fund-which pays to preserve churches of historical and architectural value. The Diocese of Blackburn said demolition would be the very last resort to the problem.
