April has certainly been a memorable month for Burnley Boys' Club, with their senior football team winning the interclub five-a-side football trophy, and the Colts cross-country team winning the Burnley Youth Organisation's Colts Trophy and the Lancashire Association of Boys' Clubs cross-country trophy for the second consecutive year.
The five-a-side championships, which are an annual event, were held earlier this month at Barden Sports Barn. the semi-finals were between the Youth Club (juniors) "A" who beat the Youth Club (seniors) "A" 1-0, and the Youth Club (seniors) "B" who beat the All Stars 5-4. In the final the seniors "B" beat the juniors "A" 2-1 and received the K.L.L. Trophy from former Burnley and Irish international footballer Jimmy McIlroy.
While all this was going on the Colts team was also making quite a name for itself in the cross-country events. The youngsters are aged between 12 and 14 and once again the youngsters showed their prowess in this gruelling event. They won the Lancashire award earlier this month at Lancaster and received their trophy from Supt. I. Eckersley, of Lancashire Constabulary. Two day later they went on to win the local trophy which was presented to them by District Youth Advisor Miss Olive Lamb, on Towneley playing fields.
