Plenty Of Activities For The Junior Anglers

Mr McBride (left) and Norman Moore explain the uses of some of the tackle to Andrew Shirtcliffe.

From an article by Jim Haworth and Norman Moore:
The large concert room at Lucas Club was bursting at the seams with local anglers who had turned out in force to see the large displays of fishing tackle provided by tackle dealer Mr N. McBride and manufacturers Mystic and Milbro. There was also a fine display of the junior match trophies which will be competed for during the coming coarse season. Mr Tom Hogan of Aer Lingus provided an interesting and varied selection of new angling films which showed all aspects of the excellent fishing facilities in England. The evening, organised by Mr Tom Benson, the Sports Secretary, was a great success.

This season will see a great increase in the activities for junior anglers in the Burnley area. This is mainly to the efforts of Mr Walter Balderson, the new junior match secretary. The young anglers who are attending angling evenings at the police station are being expertly tutored in the arts of coarse fishing by Mr John Kostilek and Mr Tony Waterworth, along with assistant junior match secretary, Mr Tony Green. Along with this, a junior summer league is arranged. The trophy for this annual event has been donated by Burnley Works Sports Club.
