Landscaping Meets Snags

One view of the waterlogged football field where problems should be overcome by re-seeding in spring.

Work on Read's recreation development has been delayed by bad weather and the project which should have been completed in November, is now scheduled for spring. Heavy rains after July prevented re-seeding of the football area. The delay has created problems for three allotment tenants, who met Read parish councillors before the monthly meeting to discuss the matter. Read Parish council has instructed its clerk, Mrs Mavis Williams, to write to the Ribble Valley Council for further advice and possible speeding-up of work by the contractors. A spokesman for the Ribble Valley authority said "We are arranging for a drain to be exposed to catch the surplus water."

Read's go-it-alone recreation project was planned in three phases. These included the leasing of parish council land to Read Cricket Club for a new pavilion; the removal and relocation of swings; and the provision of off-street car parking behind Hambledon View, Read. The football recreational area at present in progress is to be landscaped.
