Out Of Frenzy, A Popular Hit

Packed house for the opening day of Burnley's new market complex. All Burnley - and many from out of town too - wanted to see for themselves. There was even a queue to get out!
Burnley's new £600,000 market and shopping complex, part of the £5m, redevelopment scheme for the town centre, opened on schedule on Monday the 17th November following a weekend described by market traders as "one of the biggest upheavals in the history of the town's market". Some stallholders, in moving the 40-odd paces from the temporary market to the ultra-modern block across Curzon Street, had gone without a solid meal for nearly 48 hours - working around the clock so that they could open on time.
Their reward, a tremendous response from the public as thousands flocked all day to see the new markets.
