Simon Bates with a group of lucky competition winners.
Around a dozen happy Radio One fans each won a free ticket for two which got them in to the Nelson and Colne College ‘do’ at the Cat's Whiskers, Burnley. The event, staged on December 23rd, was publicised by the Burnley Express and the competition was swamped by entries. Entrants had to supply the answers to 10 questions, based on the history of BBC Radio One and its DJ stars and music.
The prizewinners were introduced to star guest at the ‘do’ Simon Bates, well know Radio One disc jockey. Nine of the winners came from Burnley: Peter Yates, James Parker, Valerie Stevenson, Stewart Duthoit, Linda Yeoman, Miss J. Evans, Marcia Deborah Barr, Conrad Chadwick and B.I. Yeoman. The other winners were Simon Ashton, Nelson; Anthony Shilling, Brierfield; and Miss Lorraine Duffey, of Padiham.
