Skipton BS Awards Scheme presentation

Lancashire county cricket favourite Jack Simmons visited the area on Monday to present prizes to local cricketers who have performed well during the recently completed season.
Invited to the presentation by the Skipton Building Society who sponsored the scheme, “Flat Jack" met the prizewinners at the Society's Colne branch.
The batting award winners received bats autographed by Lancashire CCC and Essex CCC who won three of four domestic championships during the 1984 season.
Bowling winners won Lancashire CCC sweaters and there was a consolation prize for one bowler, Jeff Green, of a limited edition tie - which marks the centenary of Test match cricket at Old Trafford.
Batting prizes went to all-rounder Paul Crabtree of Barrowford - he was unfortunately unable to attend because of Burnley FC commitments - for the highest individual score and Roy Wilson of Foulridge for the most scores of 50 or more in the season.
Bowling prizes went to Neil Wallbank of Colne thirds for the best individual bowling performance and Geoff Hurlstone of Foulridge for the most five-wicket hauls. There was a consolation prize for Jeff Green of James Nelson's who was also regularly featured on the honours board in this newspaper throughout the season.
Mr Ivan Rhodes, the manager of the Colne branch. said after the presentation: “The award scheme has proved to be very popular among the players and we hope there will be as much interest and competition for prizes next year when we intend to run the scheme again.”
"I would like to thank Jack Simmons for both presenting the prizes and helping us to obtain them, and we are now looking forward to next season.”
