Burnley Cricket Club Presentation

Mr. C. R. Davies presenting the Junior League championship cup to Peter Lawson, captain of Burnley second XI, others in the group being Mr. Milton Windle (Burnley CC Chairman of committee), Keith Fairclough (winner of the award for the most improved fieldsman) and Mr. Tom Alston (chairman of directors).
The standard of Lancashire League cricket could be a great deal better if young players would be more conscientious about practice, said Mr. C. R. Davies, league president, at the presentation at Turf Moor pavilion on Friday. Mr. Davies stated that he had been shown the plans of the proposed new pavilion which would give the club an advantage and the players something to live up to and have an influence on the future of Burnley CC. He pointed out that the Junior League was just as important as that of the Senior League and congratulating Peter Lawson he said that you could not be a good captain without a good team.
Mr. Frank Dutnall described Burnley as not being an educated town as far as cricket was concerned and predicted that Laurie Mayne, the club professional, would have an excellent season in 1969. The pro also was a splendid coach as had been proved during the past year. Club trophies were presented by Mr. Milton Windle - first XI batting, R. Harrison; bowling, J. Fletcher; wicket keeping, J. Richardson; second XI, batting H. Howarth; bowling N. Clee; wicket keeping, B. Marsden; most improved fieldsman K. Fairclough. Mr. Peter Lawson thanked the club officials particularly Mr. J. Mitchell, secretary, and Mr. A. Sandy, treasurer.
